Since young, we were told that the more effort we put in, the better results we will get. This has always been a commonly accepted principle that applies to our society. The more effort we put into our studies, the better scholastic results we will achieve. The more time we spend on playing a musical instrument, the better musician we will become. Hence, based on the above theory, we can easily derive that the more time we spend in the gym, the fastest we will get our six pack abs. However, is this statement true? In fact, opposite to what you might be thinking, the answer is not true!

I know you might be wondering...

"What is that! Spending less time in the gym will actually make me stronger and getting my six pack abs faster?"

Yes! This is really true, spending less time in the gym will in fact give us better and faster results. You will get a clearer picture when we further discuss on the muscle growing process below.

Each and every process in our body is focus on getting us healthy and alive. After so many years of evolution, our body becomes adaptable to specific conditions. We become uncomfortable when we are hungry; we become darker when exposed to high UV rays and etc. So what usually happens when our muscle tissue break down in the gym? Yes, you are right, the muscles get bigger and stronger! This is how we get our six pack abs. By stressing our muscle beyond the current capacity we have created a threat to the musculature. The body start recognising muscles break down as potentially harmful and a natural adaptive response causes the muscles to increase in size in order to protect the body against the threat. As we consistently increase the resistance from week to week the body will continue to adapt and grow.

Looks easy? On an overall, the most critical part is to understand that the muscles can only grow stronger and bigger if they are given enough time for recovery. Without sufficient time to recover, the muscle simply cannot grow.

Your ultimate objective in the gym is to stretch your muscles with the minimum workout required to give an adaptive response. Once you manage to trigger the body alarm system, you have completed your work perfectly. Any further workout to the muscles will increase the time for recovery and weaken our immune systems.

Majority of the people train far more than what is needed. High volume of training is harmful to the body. Most people structure their exercise programs in a way that actually prohibits them from making the progress that they deserve. Please refer below for the 3 fundamental rules that you must follow if you really want to maximise your gains:

1) Never train more than 3 days a week.

2) Do not workout continuously for more than an hour.

3) Perform only 5 to 8 sets workouts for large muscle groups (chest, back, thighs) and 2 to 4 sets for smaller muscle groups (shoulders, biceps, triceps, calves, abs).

Last but not least, take all sets of workouts only to the extent of muscular break down. Excessive training will have negative impact to your body! Start to discover the secrets learn how to get six pack abs by training less often!
