Eyebrow threading is a Chinese technique. The eyelid is stretched to make the hair removal easy. Eyebrow threading is a depilation technique which originated in India, although it is also widely practiced in the Middle East. The hair removal technique is not just for the eyebrows: threading can be used to remove other facial and body hair as well. Eyebrow threading involves twisting a piece of thread, usually cotton, into a double strand.
Threading services are beginning to proliferate in the west, and women are taking note. Celebrities such as Selma Hayek and Liz Hurley are said to be converts to this ancient art. Why? Because clients and practitioners alike swear by threadings accuracy-single hairs can be removed at a time, causing it to be more precise than waxing. It can also pick up the very fine hairs that tweezers miss, and has no trouble catching hairs that are too short for waxing.
Many women who have been getting their eyebrows waxed for many years are now turning to the old Eastern technique of threading in order to tame and shape their brows. The origins of this technique are not known for certain, there are rumors of Turkey, China, India and Arab nations being the creator, and although it is only starting to become better known in the west, it has been present in our society for decades now.
The technique is sometimes listed on salon menus as khite or fatlah, which are both Arabic words for threading. Eyebrow threading involves twisting a piece of thread, usually cotton, into a double strand. This double stranded thread is used to pick up a line of hair and then remove it, creating a very clean, precise hairline. Eyebrow threading is the technique preferred by Indian movie stars, who are often distinguished by their crisp brow lines.
Eyebrow threading originates from India and is probably the only way that eyebrows are shaped there. It involves the beautician or whoever is performing the threading to make a loop with a thread and twirl it a couple of times. The loop with the twirls at the center and the sides held by the beautician when applied with light pressure on the area of unwanted hair growth removes hair efficiently.
Eyebrow Threading is much less painful than waxing or tweezing and last much longer. Another benefit about threading is that it does not irritate the skin. Once done eyebrow threading it is always best to use a little bit of toner to go over the areas that have been threaded to close the pores left open from the removal of the hair follicle. Threading is not only used for the eyebrows, but can be used all over the body.
The slightly protruding brow ridges of modern humans could also still play a supporting role in this process. Together with the eyebrows, the brow ridges also shade the eyes from sunlight. It is common for people to pluck their eyebrows to maintain a clean and fashionable appearance with the use of tweezers and waxing. Both of these methods can be painful due to the sensitivity of the area around the eye but often this pain decreases over time as the individual becomes used to the sensation.
